Treatment

DIAGNOSIS: Eating Disorders

TREATMENT: Cognitive Behavioral Group Therapy for Binge Eating Disorder

BRIEF SUMMARY

  • Basic premise: Cognitive and behavioral interventions treat binge eating disorder by targeting the cycle of binge eating and dietary restraint. Both cognitive and behavioral interventions, including self-monitoring and normalizing eating patterns, are implemented in a group setting to reduce dietary restraint which in turn can reduce binge eating. The treatment also reduces eating disorder pathology by targeting dysfunctional thoughts and beliefs about body-image and weight (Division 12, 2015).
