DIAGNOSIS: Eating Disorders

TREATMENT: Group Psychodynamic Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Binge Eating Disorder

BRIEF SUMMARY

  • Basic premise: Group Psychodynamic Interpersonal Psychotherapy (GPIP) for Binge Eating Disorder reduces binge eating as a means of coping by targeting cyclical relationship patterns and reducing problems with mood (Tasca et al., 2006). The group therapy format of GPIP creates a social microcosm designed to change interpersonal patterns that may lead to problematic affect and binge eating. This group setting allows for therapists to observe and provide immediate feedback (Yalom & Leszcz, 2020).
