APA Div 49 CE: You do what?! The Challenges and Rewards of Group Therapy with Individuals who Sexually Abuse by Jerry L. Jennings, PhD & Steven Sawyer, MSSW, LICSW
The presenters will describe how group therapy is a predominant modality in the specialized field of sexual offense-specific treatment – and explain how group therapy is used with adults and juveniles who are often court-mandated to complete treatment. They will explain how clinicians can use group therapy to motivate and engage clients, who typically begin with anger, resistance, and denial, to commit themselves to prosocial behavior change. They will answer questions about any aspect of treatment with this challenging, but highly rewarding field of practice.

APA Div 49 CE: The Parents Circle – Families Forum (PCFF) Dialogue Encounters Between Palestinians and Israelis
The Parents Circle – Families Forum (PCFF; Hebrew: פורום המשפחות השכולות הישראלי-פלסטיניi; Arabic: العائلات الثكلى الإسرائيلي الفلسطيني) is a joint Israeli-Palestinian organization of over 700 families all of whom have lost an immediate family member to the ongoing conflict. One of the main activities, through which PCFF members seek to convey its message, is in dialogue meetings. The meetings are led by two PCFF members, an Israeli and a Palestinian, who tell their personal stories of bereavement and explain their choice to engage in reconciliation instead of revenge. Through the years, the PCFF has arranged about 8,500 dialogue meetings, with about 250,000 participants. The meetings are held in Hebrew, Arabic and English, according to the audience.

We will explore questions such as; What are the complexities and challenges we face as group facilitators? Which of our own identities, experiences and world views foster or challenge group process and safety? How might eastern (i.e. collectivist) and/or western (i.e. individualist) cultural values show up in group and how might we address them with humility? Along the way, we will likely touch on issues of enculturation, immigration and generational status, intergenerational conflict and trauma, marginalization, discrimination and the model minority myth.
